About 18 months ago Col began his quest to find the best vanilla slice. We will seek out a bakery and get the vanilla slice. After he’s eaten them we rank them accordingly.
Yesterday we headed up into the High Country. I visited Corryong during 2021 so took Col for a visit.
We’ve stayed within a couple of hours of home but are looking to widen our search. Here is our top 3 so far.
1. Jerilderie Bakery – very creamy custard. So good Col asked for the recipe. He would buy just the custard if he could. All 3 layers perfectly complimented each other.
2. Corryong Bakery – also a creamy custard but not quite as perfect. The icing and the base was good.
3. West Wyalong – similar to Corryong.
The vanilla slice quest is part of our commitment to visit regional areas. We always try to purchase food and Nick nick to help put money back into their economy. Some of them are doing it really tough after COVID.
